The Perkins 4108 40 hp engine has accumulated about 3000 hours since the last major overhaul. The engine powers a hydraulic pump, which drives the feathering propeller. The hydraulic drive allows for optimal engine placement in terms of center of gravity and accessibility for maintenance. It also allows for very fine thrust adjustment and almost immediate reversibility to enhance safety while docking.

The engine also powers a 105 amp high output alternator and is equipped with a heat exchanger to heat water and operate cabin heaters.

The batteries are comprised of a house bank of six 6 volt golf cart batteries, wired for 12 volts - for a total of 675 amp hours on the house bank. A separate 12 volt battery starts the engine.

Additional components include:

-Battery monitor with digital soft start voltage regulator with analog backup
-Trace Mariner Series M2512, 2500A inverter with 120A DC battery charger

Broker's Comments

ROBUST, CAPABLE, & METICULOUSLY-CARED-FOR... Step aboard this vessel and wander around a bit. Even the most steadfast landlubber will ponder taking up the seagoing life! Serious sailors will appreciate the functionality of the boat's design, the quality steel construction, her exceptional condition throughout, and ability to go there and back again.

Built in Milan, this steel ketch has a proven track record of world cruising and has sailed the Mediterranean, Caribbean, South America, French Polynesia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Hawaii, and now is at home in the Pacific Northwest. The hull is round chined 5/32" AQ42 steel plate with 1/8" steel decks. Frames are spaced 16" apart. Despite this stout construction this boat only displaces 28,000 lbs - making for a speedy, not sluggish cruiser.

The boat was re-rigged around 2000 and the masts, booms, and standing rigging were replaced at that time. The main (NeilPryde sails, ~10 hours), mizzen (Hasse sails, ~50 hours) are newer with low hours and the genoa (Hasse sails) still has 50% life remaining. In addition, the boat is equipped with numerous spare sails. The ketch rig allows for safe sailing with a small crew or even single-handed. The pilothouse design and autopilot allow the boat to be skippered from inside.

The current owner has been methodical with his improvements to the boat, and diligent with maintenance and upgrades. Recent improvements include adding stainless combings underneath the deck hatches to reduce maintenance and improvements to interior ventilation. The boat is currently hauled out for a new coat of bottom paint and touchups on the deck paint --- and the exterior gleams. The headliners throughout the interior are all recently replaced and feature installed LED lighting, the upholstery has been updated, insulation has been added below decks

The layout of the interior accommodates a large crew with eight berths and two heads. The master cabin is private and comfortable. The settee will comfortably seat six. As expected, there is good storage throughout the interior, with a workshop in the forward compartment. The interior is bright thanks to the numerous hatches and portlights throughout. I appreciate the quality of the rich teak and mahogany trim and furniture. The wood has recently been re-varnished and provides a warmth and comfort to the interior.
